Kilauea is an active shield volcano located in the Hawaiian Islands. The volcano is located on the southeast coast of the island of Hawaii and has an age of 210,000 to 280,000 years. It appeared about 100,000 years ago. This volcano is the most active of the five volcanoes that form the island of Hawaii. Kilauea also registers the most active activities on the planet. In 2023, after a series of earthquakes, an eruption occurred in the region of the volcano, as a result of which several vents poured out lava in the Halemaumau crater, forming a crack about 40 meters high in the cone. Kilauea is the second oldest hotspot in Hawaii and hosts the current identified eruptions of the Hawaii-Imperator Seamount chain. In the past, this counter was considered a larger neighbor - Mauna Loa. Kilauea has a large summit caldera and two active rift zones that extend east and west. For many years, the activity of the volcano has been contaminated by its eastern rift zone, including with destructive lava outpourings causing significant damage in the surrounding regions. Since the beginning of 2018, Kilauea activity has shifted to the lower Pune region, where pronounced lava eruptions have been detected. The eruption caused the destruction of houses and natural objects, as well as the change of sites. Volcanic activity has caused a pause in the operation of the Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park. the threat of an eruption spread in September 2018. In 2020-2021, the activity of the volcano is again active, creating a lava lake in the Halemaumau crater.
