The Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, is located in Rome, in the valley between the Esquilino, Palatine and Caelian hills.

This amphitheater, seating more than 50 thousand people, was built over eight years during the Flavian dynasty. Construction began in 72 AD. under Emperor Vespasian, and in 80 AD. was opened to the public under Emperor Titus. The location of the amphitheater coincides with the place where the pond that belonged to the Golden House of Nero was previously located.
