Denmark, situated in Northern Europe, is a pivotal component of the Kingdom of Denmark, which is a constitutionally unified state encompassing autonomous territories such as the Faroe Islands and Greenland in the North Atlantic Ocean.

Metropolitan Denmark holds the distinction of being the southernmost among the Scandinavian nations. It is positioned to the southwest and south of Sweden, south of Norway, and to the north of Germany, sharing its only land border with Germany.

In 2013, the Kingdom of Denmark, inclusive of the Faroe Islands and Greenland, boasted a grand total of 1,419 islands larger than 100 square meters (1,100 sq ft), among which 443 islands were bestowed with names, and 78 were inhabited.

With a collective land area of 42,943 square kilometers, metropolitan Denmark comprises the northern section of the Jutland peninsula and an archipelago housing 406 islands.
