You can watch the Grand Place, the central square of Brussels, through a live webcam.

This square is surrounded by the majestic baroque town halls of the former Brussels guilds, as well as two important buildings: the city’s Flamboyant Town Hall and the neo-Gothic House of Bread, now home to the Brussels City Museum. The Grand Place measures 68 by 110 meters and is completely covered with paving stones.

Construction of the Grand Place began in the 11th century and was almost completed by the 17th century. However, in 1695, during the Nine Years’ War, most of the square was destroyed during the bombardment of Brussels by French troops.

Apart from the façade and tower of the Town Hall, which were used as artillery targets, few stone walls withstood incendiary shells.

The houses surrounding the Grand Place were rebuilt in subsequent years, giving the square its current appearance, although it changed its appearance frequently in subsequent centuries. In the mid-19th century, the historical value of the square was rediscovered, after which it was carefully restored.
