Its name Chiesa di Santa Maria del Giglio, translated as “Holy Mary of the Lilies”, is associated with the lily of the valley, symbolizing the Annunciation. It is also known as Santa Maria Zobenigo, after the Hubanico family who founded it in the 9th century.
Located in Piazza Santa Maria Zobenigo, west of Piazza San Marco. The building was rebuilt by Giuseppe Sardi for Admiral Antonio Barbaro at the end of the 17th century and is famous for its magnificent Baroque façade.
