The Obolonsky district, known as Obolonskyi raion in Ukrainian, constitutes a significant administrative division within the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv. Situated on the northern sector of the city, it graces the right bank of the Dnieper River.

The district’s southern perimeters are demarcated by the expansive Big Ring Road and key streets like Pushche-Voditskaya, Vyshgorodskaya, Novokonstantinovskaya, and Elektrikov. On the other hand, its eastern boundary is traced by the majestic Dnieper River.

This positions the Obolonsky district in proximity to neighboring districts such as Svyatoshinsky, Podolsky, and Desnyansky. Its origins as an administrative-territorial entity date back to March 3, 1975, and it was initially christened after the capital of Belarus, Minsk. Initially encompassing areas like Obolon, Priorka, Kurenevka, Minsk massif, and Vyshgorod massif, it underwent a name change and expansion in 2001.

The Kyiv City Council decided to rename it to Obolonsky district to align with its geographical scope, now including Pushcha-Voditsa. Notably, the district hosts three vital Kyiv metro stations—“Obolon,” “Minskaya,” and “Heroes of Dnepra”—linking the residential areas seamlessly to Kyiv’s heart.
