Explore the island of Eilean Donan in Scotland with this live webcam. It is located where three sea lochs meet – Loch Duich, Loch Long and Loch Alsh, in the western Scottish Highlands, just a kilometer from the village of Dorney.

The island is connected to the mainland by a footbridge built in the early 20th century and features a picturesque castle, often seen in photographs, films and television. The original castle was built in the 13th century and served as a fortress for Clan Mackenzie and their allies, Clan Macrae. However, in 1719 the castle was destroyed by government ships in response to the Mackenzie’s involvement in the Jacobite uprisings.

Eilean Donan Castle is a 20th-century reconstruction of the original under the direction of Lieutenant Colonel John Macrae-Gilstrap.

Eilean Donan is part of the Kintail National Scenic Area, one of 40 such areas in Scotland. In 2001, only one person lived on the island, but according to the 2011 census, the island had no population.

The name “Eilean Donan” comes from the Celtic saint Donnan Eigg, who is said to have founded a church on the island in 617, although no remains of the church survive today.
