Broumov is a small town located at an altitude of 395 meters above sea level in the Kralovehradecky region of the Czech Republic, in the northeast of the historical region of Bohemia, near the border with Poland. It covers an area of 22.26 km², with a population of approximately 7,444 people.
The town was founded in 1256 by the Benedictine abbey of the Břevnov Monastery in Prague, to which King Přemysl Otakar I donated these lands. The main attraction of Broumov is the wooden church of the Virgin Mary, built in the 12th century. It is the oldest surviving wooden church in the Czech Republic. In the center of the town is the Main Square, named Peace Square. In the center of the square, there is a garden and the Marian column (Plague column), erected in 1706.
