This live webcam provides a direct view of the square in front of the Eyüp Sultan Mosque, located in the Eyüp district of Istanbul, outside the city walls and near the Golden Horn. The mosque complex includes a mausoleum that marks the site where Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, the standard-bearer and companion of the Prophet Muhammad, is believed to be buried. The current building dates back to the early 19th century.
Due to its special sanctity, the mosque played an important role in the coronation ceremony of new Ottoman sultans, who would come here via the majestic Kulüs Yolu (Procession Way) to be girded with the Sword of Osman at the start of their reign. Today, it remains a popular pilgrimage site.
